American Football stars disobeys President Trump

American Football players across the US took part in pre-game protests on live television on Sunday in defiance of President Donald Trump after he threw himself into a racially charged slanging match with some of America’s top sports stars.

At least 100 National Football League (NFL) stars in the US have defied President Donald Trump after he said sportsmen who 'disrespect America' by protesting during the national anthem should be fired by their teams.

He was referring to a controversial string of protests started by player Colin Kaepernick a former San Francisco 49ers player to highlight the treatment of black Americans as victims of police brutality and other discrimination. He inspired the practice of sitting or kneeling during the national anthem.

Trump had said this first at a rally in Alabama on Friday; "Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired."

Two days after Mr Trump attacked African-American football players who have refused to stand for the national anthem; an unprecedented number of athletes on Sunday knelt, linked arms or sat out renditions of the National Anthem.

Since the statement has been made by the president, players and coaches of teams including the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins declined to stand for the anthem.

The following are the few of the teams that have protested against President Trump’s statement:

    · Baltimore Ravens & Jacksonville Jaguars: Two dozen players took a knee while remaining players and Jaguars owner Shad Khan remained locked arm-in-arm.

    · The Pittsburgh Steelers waited off the field during the national anthem before their game

    · Chicago Bears: The Bears did not kneel but many did link arms.

    · Buffalo Bills: A handful of players either sat or knelt.

    · Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson knelt with the rest of the team locking arms.

    · Atlanta Falcons: The entire team locked arms as two players took a knee.

    · Cleveland Browns: At least 20 players took a knee and all team members linked arms.

Earlier that day, Mr Trump had called for Americans to boycott professional football, the country’s most widely watched sport. He tweeted that “you will see change take place fast” if fans stopped going to National Football League games. The President’s statements prompted extraordinary frown from football and basketball players including LeBron James, who called the president a “bum”. Meanwhile, some of the President’s supporters have cheered him on social media.
