Federal Government Finally Barks At Asuu Strike

    Finally, the Academic staff Union of Universities(ASUU) will on Thursday 8th of September hold a very crucial meeting with the Federal Government, just a week after the refusal of lecturers to show up for a meeting with the government delegation.

    The meeting was scheduled at the point ministers of Labour and education was communicated to ASUU in the early hours of Tuesday.

    Ministers that are expected to be there at the meeting are Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige and Minister of Education Adamu Adamu

    This meeting was confirmed to hold on Thursday by the president of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi.

    Until Thursday , no one could say what the outcome of the meeting will be, but in the previous meeting held on last week had reviewed the government’s initial offer to the demands of lecturers , which at that meeting they finally resolved to proceed with the strike which commenced on 13th August.

    Federal government had meticulously offered to pay N23 billion and a monthly payment of N1.5 billion pending the outcome audit being carried out by the Ministry of Finance on Various Universities.

    Lecturers demands includes payment of shortfall in salaries. Universities to be allowed to manage their internal revenue independently and exemption of universities from single account of the treasurer.
