West Brom midfielder James Morrison has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 30-year-old has become a fans' favourite and has made more than 270 appearances since signing from Middlesbrough nine years ago.

Middlesbrough and Sunderland were credited with interest in his services but the Scotland international has elected to stick with Albion, the new deal including a further one-year option in the club's favour.

His season was curtailed by a serious hamstring injury he suffered in a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in January, a fact which had an impact on his decision to stay.

"I was aware of the speculation and some of the stories were true," he told the club's website. "I had a good sit down and think about it - did I need a new challenge? What more could I do with the club?

"I spoke with my family, the chairman, [director of football administration] Richard Garlick and they told me their vision about where we go from here and I also thought about the end of last season. I didn't like the way I went out - walking around the pitch and then out the door.
